Baguio City Adventure: Things To Do At Tam-Awan Village

Baguio City is known as the Summer Capital of the Philippines for its chilling and cold weather. Every year, hundreds and thousands of tourists came to experience the pride of the City of Pines.

As you go to Baguio, this place is a MUST visit if you want to experience their culture and to see their very own craftsmanship altogether with the beauty of art and power of Mother Nature. One of the Baguio City's greatest pride is where the wealth of its colorful heritage was still conserved from pre to post American Era, wherein some parts are still untouched from civilization, and where the old traditions from its Cordilleran roots were still untold - the Tam-awan Village.

Things you may do at Tam-awan Village:

Visit The Tam-Awan Village Art Gallery

Cordillera is known as the home of traditional people who are gifted in craftsmanship that features the beauty of mother nature thru their artworks such as Pottery Making, Tattooing and more. In Tam-awan Village Art Gallery, you'll see different paintings available for sale which are made by several people. These paintings are looking for homes and people who will appreciate its beauty.

Hike Around The Village

As a disclaimer, Tam-awan Village is just a replica of what a unique traditional village in cordillera looks like. The steepness, weather condition, and surroundings are all based on its traditional villages there. They replicate the place so that, the tourists may understand more about their culture, home, and status. This village simply speaks that people of cordillera is living in a moist environment of highly elevated places. In fact, the word 'Tam-awan' means 'Vantage point'

Eat Delicious Cordillera's Dishes And More Foods

Of course, to complete our experience package for a place, you must have to eat their food. Their cuisine explains a lot. Tam-awan Village Cafe offers a menu with different traditional foods like:

  • Smoked Meat. The Highland traditional Smoked meat served with mountain rice and side dish
  • Pinikpikan. Chicken cooked in a creamy broth seasoned with traditional highland “ etag ”(salted pork) served with mountain rice.

Get Rest In Cordilleras' Huts

Cordillera is known for having different tribes of different cultures and means of living. These cultures can also be seen on how their houses or huts are built. And yes! They usually live in huts. As we roam around the village, we saw that all types of houses are presented there. If you want to learn more about them, visit the Baguio Museum.

Dance Along With Cordilleras' Performers

One of the most memorable and unforgettable experiences I've ever had in Tam-awan Village was when I danced with the Traditional Performers of Cordillera who featured its different Traditional Dances. I, myself had the rare chance to dance with them and it was so satisfying and fullfilling as I became one of them, and became part of their culture even for just a short period of time.

Leave No Trace But Memories That Last

Don't just take pictures, see and experience it yourself with discipline. We all know that pictures aren't enough to take a good shot of memories. The smell, the coolness of the wind, the great ambiance of a place, and the reason behind every smile can't be captured by a mere selfie. Always bear in mind that we're tourists in a place so we have to follow traffic rules, city ordinances, and to respect their way of living together with their cultures.
